Esteemed experts, I will continue, on behalf of the Stanley Civilization, to report our latest findings on the Microwave-Oven-Compatible Era of Earth civilization.
In the previous briefing, we examined how this era came into being, the microwave cult behind it, and the three generations of Earth civilization’s Microwave Sutra. This time, our attention turns to a cultural phenomenon that appears repeatedly in that text: instruments of punishment.
Punitive devices found in domestic ruins
Among residential remains from the Microwave-Oven-Compatible Era, third-generation Earth civilization uncovered a large number of objects that appear to have served as torture devices. The most frequently found examples are rope-shaped devices and iron-block devices. Somewhat less common, but still regularly encountered, are mechanized and automated devices. A small portion required external energy, while most seem to have been powered biologically. Our current assessment is that these were all tools designed to compel meaningless labor.
Please refer to the display here. This rope-like device has gripping points at both ends. Judging by the body structure of Earth humans, it was most likely used to force repeated jumping.
This iron-block device also has a central grip. Its function appears to have been the forced conversion of muscular kinetic energy into gravitational potential energy.
And here we have what may be called an endless walking apparatus. Its design is exceptionally cruel: it forced Earth humans to perform upright bipedal locomotion within a confined space. Even more disturbingly, the apparatus was fitted with monitoring equipment, allowing the executioner to observe the victim throughout the punishment. Through data recovery, we have even reconstructed a segment of surveillance footage. As you can see, the physically strong individual here was probably an overseer, guiding the victim through the procedure. More brazenly still, he released rhythmic mechanical waves, apparently to numb the victim’s mind during the process.
What the Microwave Sutra avoids saying
The Microwave Sutra appears to deliberately avoid discussing this phenomenon in any direct way. When it does mention related matters, the wording is vague and evasive. Even so, we have been able to extract several clues.
These punitive devices appear more often in ruins associated with better economic conditions. For that reason, we have grounds to suspect that third-generation Earth civilization had also dimly sensed the possibility that, during the Microwave-Oven-Compatible Era, a new form of slavery may have emerged.
However, no bodies or remains of these enslaved individuals have been found. At the same time, even in regions with poor economic conditions, there were public spaces where large quantities of such devices were stored. This suggests that the punished slaves may have been physically recycled, leaving no recoverable traces at all.
A different interpretation: the executioner and the punished may have been one
Our research team intends to propose a new explanation. We believe there is reason to think that the executioner and the punished individual may in fact have been the same person.
There are several reasons for this.
First, among the excavated artifacts, these devices show clear signs of customization. If their purpose had been ordinary punishment, one would expect standardization.
Second, although these devices were dangerous when considered in relation to Earth human physiology, they were generally not fatal. This would explain the absence of corpses.
Third, the forced labor involved had no productive value whatsoever. It was profoundly uneconomical. As is widely known, across nearly every form of civilization, uneconomical behavior often functions as a means of displaying rank and identity.
On this basis, we believe that second-generation Earth civilization in the Microwave-Oven-Compatible Era developed a punitive culture centered on meaningless labor. Earth humans who accepted this culture may have used self-punishment as a way to display status. These devices were very likely acquired voluntarily.
We also observed an interesting supporting phenomenon: the wear rate of these devices is clearly low, suggesting that they were not used very often. Most likely, they served as social markers, signaling the owner’s supposed capacity to endure punishment.
A possible atavistic impulse
For reference, one scholar on our team has offered another interpretation. These devices may represent a curious atavistic phenomenon of the Microwave-Oven-Compatible Era.
According to our estimates, by this period Earth humans already possessed enough mechanical power to replace biological energy. Yet many of these punishment devices were designed to imitate bodily movements from the age of biological labor. This may have been an instinct-driven regression: a way of commemorating life from the earlier era of biological energy through purposeless physical exertion.
This view is offered only as a reference. After all, in most civilizations, progress is accompanied by the decline of biological function and by the increasing iron-based and silicon-based transformation of life. Worship of carbon-based power is a rare occurrence.
This concludes our brief research summary on Earth’s culture of punishment devices. Most previous studies have emphasized the barbarism, backwardness, and cruelty of this culture, especially where domestic punishment devices are concerned. We hope to provide a somewhat different perspective.
We also hope the experts will continue allocating observation resources to our team, so that we may keep tracking third-generation civilization’s research into the Microwave-Oven-Compatible Era.
Finally, we must reiterate: Earth belongs to everyone. The purpose of this experiment has always been to understand our origins and the direction of our future. We firmly uphold the principle of observation without interference, and we oppose any form of contact with Earth civilization.
