Morning

I woke up pretty early, but after scrolling on my phone for a while, I ended up staying in bed anyway. It was Sunday, I had nothing to do, and getting up felt unnecessary. Lying there, I could hear the noise from downstairs and realized the cafeteria seemed to be making breakfast after all. Still, that had nothing to do with me—I was too lazy to get up for it.

For context, I live on the second floor, and right below my room is the cafeteria kitchen, so I’m basically the first person in the whole place to know when food is ready. That part is kind of funny.

Why I Didn’t Go Home

Normally I might have gone home on a Sunday, but not today. I was deliberately creating the impression that I was still stuck working overtime. Tomorrow I need to go pick up my mom and bring her home, so if anyone asks, I can just say I spent the weekend working and happened to have something to do on Monday. Honestly, that plan felt a little too clever.

Finally Getting Up at Noon

I stayed in bed until around noon before I finally got up and went downstairs, just to try my luck. As expected, there was no food left in the cafeteria. It had all been gone for ages.

By chance I ran into a few coworkers who also hadn’t eaten, so we went out together. I ordered a mixed clay pot dish from a place I go to often. It’s funny because this isn’t even the kind of food I usually like, but I’ve gone there so many times that I’ve somehow become attached to it. If I eat the same dish somewhere else, it never feels the same.

Messing Around With a CDN

After lunch I came back and started fiddling around with my site again, even though I don’t really understand this stuff that well. In the end I managed to enable a CDN in Tencent Cloud. Whether it actually made access any faster, I have no idea. Everything on my end is cached anyway, so I couldn’t really tell. I checked and saw there was still a year left, which was enough to reassure me, so I decided to stop worrying about it and leave it alone.

A Failed Attempt to Watch a Movie

In the afternoon I thought I’d watch a movie and then go back to sleep. I spent forever looking for something, and eventually put on Youth 3 for a while. Older movies really can be something else—in this case, irritating enough to put me in a bad mood. After that I couldn’t fall asleep anymore. I checked my phone and saw it was already past five. That was the whole afternoon gone.

Dinner Trouble

What made it even more annoying was that this week wasn’t even a real break because of overtime work, yet the cafeteria still didn’t make dinner that night. Worse, the door was locked, so I couldn’t even go in to get some water. It was ridiculous.

But food is food, so I had to go eat somewhere and just treat it like getting a task done. I found a beef noodle place and ordered fried noodles instead. It’s not something I eat often, but every once in a while it’s pretty good, and this time the taste was decent.

Nothing Good to Watch, Until There Was

After dinner I went straight back. The whole day had been unbelievably dull. I wanted to watch something, but had no idea what. I kept scrolling through options again and again—no movies I wanted, no shows that looked appealing either. Then I came across The Advisors Alliance. That one is genuinely good. I’ve seen both parts before, and they were excellent, so I figured I might as well watch it again.

Picking Up a Strange Delivery

At some point I got a delivery notification through WeChat from ZTO Express saying a package had arrived. The weird part was that I hadn’t bought anything, so I was confused. When I picked it up and opened it, I found a lunch box inside.

Then it clicked—it was from Xiaobao. Last time, Xiaobao had bought me a bowl. When I eat, I usually need my rice and dishes together, and rice is fine, but soup noodles are another story. With noodles, I can’t really get at the side dishes properly. Xiaobao had said before that another container would be bought for me, and I had completely forgotten about it. When I opened the package upstairs and saw what was inside, I had to laugh. The lunch box was a bit over the top—three tiers and all. I actually felt a little embarrassed.

Washing Clothes at Night

Since I’m going to pick up my mom tomorrow, I figured I should change into a fresh set of clothes and wash the ones I’d been wearing. I’m a pretty lazy person, so this kind of thing gets put off easily. It just happened that the stove was burning well this time, which made it a good moment to wash them. Honestly, if the day hadn’t been so empty and I hadn’t done almost nothing from morning to night, I probably still wouldn’t have bothered. So I’ll give myself a little credit for that.
