The past few days have felt full of small disruptions and constant motion.
At Jasmine’s company, a new leader has taken over, and the change was obvious right away. There has been a lot going on—office moves, meetings, and rounds of research and discussion—very much a “new person, new atmosphere” kind of situation.
I had some free time on the 26th and looked into plans for going out during the National Day holiday. After checking around, I still couldn’t settle on a destination. In the end, it seemed we might only be able to go to Nan’ao Island.
On the way home from work the next day, the heat was still pressing down hard, and you could already feel the typhoon getting closer. After I got home, I put batteries into Little Bear’s bubble gun. She was delighted and immediately pulled me downstairs to play. Even after dinner, she wanted to go out again with the bubble gun, which made it clear just how much she liked it.
For the past few nights, we’ve also been using a Bluetooth speaker to play bedtime stories for her. She enjoys listening, and before long she falls asleep.
The typhoon made landfall in Fujian at around four in the morning on the 28th. I had expected heavy rain by morning, but it never really came—just a light drizzle instead.
That same day, Jasmine mentioned that her leadership had planned to move the copier into her office. She argued her case and refused to agree to it, and in the end the copier was not moved downstairs.
On the 29th, Jasmine and I went for a prenatal checkup together. There was a blood draw and an ultrasound, and the total cost was a little over 500 yuan. Everything in the results looked normal.
Heavy rain started early on the morning of the 30th. Jasmine had a meeting near our company that morning, and after it ended she came to eat at our staff cafeteria. Traffic was especially bad on the way home after work, and she didn’t get back until 6:30 in the evening.
On October 1, Jasmine was on duty in the morning, so I took Little Bear and Grandma to a park near her workplace. Not long after we arrived, a light rain started falling, and we walked around the park under umbrellas. I bought Little Bear a ticket for the “air ride,” but she refused to get on no matter what, saying she was scared.
At noon we had rice noodles, and afterward we strolled through a pedestrian street that was more famous in name than in reality.
Rain began again during the night of October 2 and kept falling all day, from morning until evening. After dinner, Jasmine said she still wasn’t full and wanted KFC, so I drove her out for McDonald’s instead.
